Coca-Cola GB rolls out Berry Fanta in UK

Coca-Cola Great Britain is planning to launch Berry Fanta in the UK in February to build on the success of the carbonated drinks brand.

Berry Fanta is a “naturally flavoured berry soda” and was launched in the US in August to take on PepsiCo’s berry-based product Pepsi Blue, which launched in July.

Fanta has proven successful for Coca-Cola and has been winning the sales battle with its main competitor Tango, a Britvic Soft Drinks’ brand. Fanta’s sales have soared with total take-home sales reaching £120m in the year to July 2002, a rise of 47.3 per cent on the previous year (ACNielsen).

Coca-Cola launched its Icy Lemon variant in February 2001 and its Fruit Twist variant in February this year. It will be launching Icy Lemon Light shortly (MW October 10).

Soul works on the Fanta brand and created an animated television campaign in April, which continued the established “Why can’t everything orange taste like Fanta?” theme that started last year. Soul also created an outdoor campaign for Fanta Fruit Twist in May (MW May 16).

Coca-Cola has spent £4.2m advertising the brand in the year to September (Nielsen Media Research).
