Jack boosts size with back-board gimmick

Jack, the A5-sized men’s magazine, is rethinking its format and attaching a back-board to the magazine so that it can be placed alongside the larger mainstream men’s titles, such as FHM and Loaded.

Jack will no longer be sent to retailers in its little display boxes. Its next issue, on the shelves from tomorrow (Thursday), will be attached to a back-board covered with images from the magazine, which is plugged as a free postcard.

A spokeswoman for I Feel Good (IFG), the publisher of Jack, has confirmed that the next three issues of the magazine will use the back-board, and it may become a permanent feature.

A media-buyer says: “This back-board will increase Jack’s covermount options, especially when all other men’s magazines are heavily covermounting to increase circulation.”

Jack, launched by Loaded founder James Brown in April, went monthly in October. The title, which describes itself as “an adventure magazine for grown-ups”, appointed Manning Gottlieb Media earlier this year to handle its launch strategy and planning and buying work for other IFG titles, including Viz and Fortean Times.
