The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has appointed former British Airways marketer Peter Fisk as its new chief executive. He replaces John Stubbs, who has stepped down.
Fisk, who joins from management and technology consulting company PA Consulting Group, will take up the post on February 1. The job had earlier been offered to former BBC marketer Jane Frost (MW October 10, 2002). It is believed she turned the post down because she was not satisfied with the package on offer.
The brief for the new chief executive is to establish CIM as the world’s leading professional body of marketing. Fisk says: “The CIM is well known as the training ground of marketing, but has done less for more senior marketers. It needs to address the needs and ambitions of every level of marketer, of members and non-members, and of business in general.
“The CIM will need to work closely with the whole marketing community – with marketers and business leaders, academics and professional bodies, consultancies and suppliers.”
Stubbs, meanwhile, is deciding his next career move. He joined CIM in July 1999 from the Marketing Council, which he set up in 1995 and presided over as chief executive. Prior to setting up the council, Stubbs was deputy head of marketing at Unilever.
