EMAP starts trawling for agency to handle New Woman campaign

EMAP is hunting for an agency to launch a multi-million pound campaign promoting its New Woman magazine, following the loss of its Elle and Red titles to Hachette Filipacchi (HP) UK last year.

HP UK, led by former EMAP chief Kevin Hand, won the rights to publish both Red and Elle after the HP and EMAP joint venture was dissolved. Both the titles were part of the EMAP Elan stable, which also includes New Woman, Top Santé, Heat, More! and Bliss. Losing them created a gaping hole in EMAP’s women’s magazines portfolio.

A spokeswoman for EMAP Elan says: “We are looking to appoint an agency but no details are available yet.”

In the past, New Woman has used Explosive to create a through-the-line campaign. Quiet Storm handles the creative accounts for Heat and More! but it is not believed to be on the New Woman shortlist.

According to the January to June 2002 Audit Bureau of Circulations figures, New Woman sales rose by 1.3 per cent period on period and 5.8 per cent year on year to a circulation of 309,037.

Separately, EMAP recently promoted chief operating officer Tom Moloney to chief executive. He beat off challenges from outsiders to succeed long-serving Robin Miller later this month.
