Daewoo European marketing director transferred back to the US after being parachuted in last year.

GM Daewoo’s European marketing director Janet Eckhoff, who oversaw last year’s pitch for the company’s advertising business, is returning to General Motors US headquarters as part of a series of management changes.

Her departure comes at the same time as the appointment of former Jaguar marketer Rob Smettem as director of marketing and public affairs for GM Daewoo in the UK.

GM Daewoo Europe has also appointed Trevor Isherwood as advertising manager and Adam Pharaoh as marketing manager for operations. Both will report to Eckhoff’s replacement.

She will now manage mid-sized trucks.Smettem joins from Ford-owned Jaguar where he headed global marketing communications and oversaw the S-type launch. He worked alongside former Jaguar managing director and now vice-president for sales, marketing and after-sales for GM Europe, Jonathan Browning.

Smettem will be Daewoo’s first UK director of marketing for more than two years, and will report to UK managing director Andrew Carroll.

At the end of last year Eckhoff reappointed DFGW as the lead creative agency for Daewoo for the UK and Europe (MW October 24, 2002). The agency has been briefed to handle the brand advertising for television and outdoor, and the brand strategy for Europe.
