Richmond Ice Cream, which holds the licence to manufacturer Nestlé brands, is launching a Nestlé-branded dispenser from which consumers can buy ice cream cornets.
The company admits that the hand-held ice cream market is in decline but says the advent of the dispenser could buck this trend. Richmond is targeting convenience stores, leisure centres, cinemas and zoos to stock the Nestlé Ice Creamery.
Richmond category marketing manager Matthew Wilson says the system will increase the accessibility of soft ice cream. “This is important as our extensive consumer research campaign identified that many consumers would choose to buy soft ice cream if only it were more widely available.”
The ice cream will have a recommended retail price of £1.10 and will be available in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and toffee flavours.
A spokeswoman for Richmond claims the machine is an “innovation” as consumers can only buy these type of ice creams from ice cream vans.
