Allders cull claims head of marketing

Allders group marketing director Larry Thomson is understood to have been made redundant after Terry Green’s Scarlett Retail took control of the retail chain this week.

Thomson is part of the senior management team at Allders, 12 members of which – including chief executive Harvey Lipsith and managing director Stephen Tague – have been given the chop.

The restructure is understood to have been initiated by Green, who is a shareholder in Scarlett Retail, as are property company Minerva and Lehman Brothers. Scarlett had to fight off a counter-bid from Tom Hunter to secure the retail chain.

A new management line-up has yet to be announced, but it is thought that Green, who has run both Bhs and Debenhams, will be chief executive.

One of Thomson’s most recent tasks was to work with retail specialist 20/20 and branding consultancy Interbrand to develop an up-to-date look for Allders’ new Oxford Street store. The launch was supported by an advertising campaign through RPM3, with media bought by John Ayling & Associates. It is not known whether Allders’ new owners will continue with these agency arrangements.
