Barclays fills business banking marketing post

Barclays has appointed internal marketer Bruce Kelsall to business banking marketing director.

The post has been vacant since George Bothwell was moved to the newly created position of centres of excellence director to head the team responsible for advertising, market research and marketing support (MW January 30).

Kelsall has been with Barclays for over 20 years. Previously marketing director for medium business and agriculture, he was responsible for business strategy, promoting the Barclays brand, and generating sales support material and tools for the business unit. Other positions Kelsall has held in Barclays include marketing director for small business banking and head of corporate marketing communications.

Kelsall’s promotion follows a restructure of Barclays’ marketing operations, led by group marketing director Simon Gulliford. Last December, he reshuffled the bank’s UK marketing team to integrate its marketing operations more effectively. Retail marketing director Richard Harvey was promoted to a group role co-ordinating marketing activities across personal financial services, business banking and Barclaycard UK. He was replaced by Andrew Gillespie, former marketing operations director (MW December 12, 2002).

For the year ending December 31 2002, Barclays reported a pre-tax profit of &£3.2bn, down slightly from &£3.4bn in 2001.
