Gillette media director given top European post at Braun

Gillette has promoted European media director Michael Winkler to be its top European marketer for the Braun product range as part of an internal restructure.

The company is in the process of moving its central European marketing team from the UK to Geneva.

As European business unit director for Braun, Winkler will be responsible for the Braun haircare, shaver and depilation ranges.

Winkler replaces Alan Sutherland, who has been made business unit director for oral care in Europe. His predecessor, Steven Taylor, has been given a senior sales role in the UK.

The reshuffle in the European marketing department follows the creation of a personal care division for Gillette’s toiletries brands in the UK, which include the Right Guard deodorant range. Business unit director for grooming and personal care Jackie Jordan now has responsibility solely for the grooming care products, which include the Mach III and Venus razors.

The new personal care division is headed by Jeff Riley, who joins from the company’s North American commercial operations division.

Gillette is expected to launch a raft of new deodorant products this year. Meanwhile, Unilever plans to rival Gillette’s Right Guard with the launch of a new Lynx variant, supported by a £7m marketing and advertising spend, called LynxDry (MW last week).
