There’s no eggs-cuse for such cringeworthy puns

It’s always good to find a kindred spirit, particularly one so close to home. So the news that Westminster City Council was using the council tax to pay for puns and confectionery, really recharged the Diary’s battery.

To publicise new staff benefits, the council gave each staff member a Cadbury Crème Egg and a postcard with the following text:

“We have been cracking on with our plans to recognise the egg-cellence of staff with a series of benefits. We are hatching an affordable childcare scheme. This will mean you shell out less for your little chicks up to five years old and give Westminster staff egg-stra priority for places. We’re not putting all our eggs in one basket. We will be announcing other new benefits for staff throughout the year, because we don’t want you to be poached! In the meantime I hope you enjoy this small token of thanks for making us the crème of the crop.”

Well done Westminster! That’s one for the Diary’s albumen.
