Ogilvy & Mather’s TV and press ads for Kotex tampons carry glamorous straplines such as “Looking gorgeous” and “For lingerie lovers”. With this in mind, the Diary was perturbed to learn – while being given a somewhat bewildering impromptu product presentation, which stopped just short of demonstration – that O&M’s internal (ahem) name for the Kotex account is “Project Fish”.

Curious as to why, the Diary put its investigating cap on and went trawling for information. There was relief all round when it was explained that the “fish” reference was because the shape of the product’s sales chart resembles a cartoon fish. Thank cod there’s an innocent explanation…
