Does Mother know best on racism?

The Diary was happy to see the Football Association is to act on racism at England games by launching a new TV campaign (MW last week).

However, on seeing that the FA has lined up TBWA/London and Mother to pitch for the campaign, the Diary was left confused. Could this be the same Mother that was accused of poor taste when, in 1998, it sent model kits of baseball bat-wielding football hooligans – with a leaflet declaring “Mother is proud to bring you a piece of living history: the English football hooligan” – to the Press?

At least Mother has the advantage of first-hand knowledge of what it’s up against. The Diary waits with bated breath for the details of its campaign pitch. Poseable Ku-Klux Klan action figures perhaps?
