BT promotes consumer supremo

BT Retail has promoted its consumer marketing director Fergus Crockett to managing director of consumer. The promotion follows the surprise announcement earlier this week that Angus Porter has been appointed by Abbey National to fill its top marketing role.

Crockett’s new role is an extension of his existing marketing role and does not directly replace the position vacated by Porter. BT is now poised to appoint someone from outside the company in Porter’s place.

A spokesman for BT confirmed Crockett’s promotion and said that the company was seeking a group managing director of consumer and venture, who would replace Porter. He also confirmed the company was talking to “an external candidate”.

Crockett will report to the new group managing director when an appointment is made. He has also taken on the responsibilities of BT Broadband and customer satisfaction, with the directors of both these divisions reporting directly to him.

BT director of marketing services Amanda MacKenzie will report to chief executive Pierre Danon until the new group managing director is appointed.

Earlier this year, BT added Clemmow Hornby Inge (CHI) and Fallon to its &£95m advertising agency roster (MW April 3). CHI’s first project will be to raise awareness of BT’s broadband-enabled blue internet kiosks. Fallon, through its links with Publicis Groupe, will support BT’s business services and solutions arm, BT Ignite, in its overseas expansion.
