VCCP scoops £30m FedEx Euro account

Federal Express has awarded its European advertising account, estimated to be worth £30m, to Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest (VCCP) following a four-way pitch. The agency beat off competition from Bartle Bogle Hegarty, Campbell Doyle Dye and Abbott Mead Vickers. BBDO, the UK incumbent. The BBDO network is the incumbent on the European, Middle Eastern and Asian account. The pitch was overseen by the AAR.

VCCP’s brief will be to develop a new direction for the FedEx brand. Last year, FedEx spent £1.8m on advertising in the UK.

VCCP was founded in January 2002 and operates solely in the UK. It will link up with other agencies across Europe as part of the European campaign, in a similar fashion to its work for O2, another account won from AMV.

VCCP secured the European O2 business, valued at £45m, in January last year. It was the agency’s first account win. The O2 brand relaunch began in April 2002. VCCP’s other clients include Appletise, Coca-Cola and ING Direct.

FedEx is experiencing difficulties in the US, its largest market. Rising fuel costs and downturns in technology and manufacturing industries have hit the company’s revenues.
