Space NK hires first head of marketing

Luxury beauty retailer Space NK has appointed Amy Gordinier as its first marketing director, reporting to founder and president Nicky Kinnaird.

Gordinier was previously marketing director for Jo Malone, a London-based skincare and fragrances company that was bought by beauty giant Estée Lauder in 1999. Gordinier began her career with L’Oréal as a product manager in 1992, before moving to director of marketing at Coty/Lancaster Worldwide in 1999.

Gordinier says that her brief is to bring consistency to the Space NK brand in all its consumer communications. She says the Space NK business is growing rapidly and so needs a marketing director to work alongside the sales director.

Gordinier adds: “It is a steep learning curve, particularly as the business is growing so fast. There are plans to continue its swift development.”

Space NK carries an extensive range of premium beauty care products in its 30 UK stores. The retailer does not have an advertising agency, although was reported to be looking for one in 2001 to create a marketing strategy. Gordinier says the company will continue to work below the line to push sales, using direct mail campaigns, quarterly catalogue mailings and in-store events.
