BAT posts 25 per cent drop in pre-tax profits

British American Tobacco has posted a 25 per cent drop in pre-tax profits in the first half of 2003, after the group took a &£279m charge for restructuring its businesses in the UK and Canada. Last month, BAT said it would close its Darlington factory with the loss of 490 jobs.
