BBC Magazines launches title aimed at pre-school children

BBC Magazines is launching a new title for pre-school children, My First Magazine, in a bid to encourage two- to five-year-olds to start reading.

The magazine, launched in association with publisher Dorling Kindersley, will appear on September 24. My First Magazine, priced at &£1.50, will be available in a small, square format, which the publisher claims will make it easy for the targeted age group to hold.

BBC youth and children’s magazines publishing director Jaynie Bye says: “It is the perfect addition to our education portfolio, and it is a market we take very seriously at BBC Magazines. We are always looking at new formats that will offer the all-important mix of learning and fun.”

My First Magazine will introduce young readers to reading and drawing, as well as activities such as cutting, folding and sticking.

This month, BBC Magazines is launching Disney’s Animated Adventures, aimed at seven- to 11-year-olds. The publisher has teamed up with Disney Publishing Worldwide to produce the title.

The monthly magazine will coincide with the release of the Disney film Treasure Planet. Disney Animated Adventures will retail at &£2.99.
