William Grant & Sons international marketing director Tim Dewey is leaving the company without a job to go to. His exit follows a recent board-level shake-up which led to the departure of group managing director Patrick Thomas (MW May 22). The company is in the middle of an advertising pitch.
Insiders suggest that Thomas and Dewey were asked to leave the family-run business, following a disagreement over strategy.
Only last month, Dewey called a review of the &£2.5m advertising business for the Glenfiddich whisky brand (MW July 24). The incumbent on the account is McCann-Erickson.
Thomas appointed ex-Diageo marketer Dewey in 2001. Dewey was responsible for Glenfiddich, blended whisky Grant’s and super-premium brand Balvenie, as well as for developing a “consumer culture” within a company which has historically been a trade and import business.
Last year, the company appointed Universal McCann to its global strategic media planning account (MW September 19, 2002). John Ayling & Associates handles media buying and planning in the UK.
