The Competition Commission delays Safeway decision

The Competition Commission has delayed giving its decision on potential bids for Safeway to trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt. It was due to submit its report on Tuesday (August 12), but the deadline has been extended to August 18. It is expected to block prospective bids from Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s, paving the way for Wm Morrison Supermarkets to continue its own bid.
