SC Johnson chief quits after a year in the role

Packaged goods giant SC Johnson is searching for a UK marketing chief following the resignation of Claire Broomfield after just one year in the position.

Broomfield took control as marketing director for the UK in September, after swapping her previous position as marketing director for the company’s centre of excellence with Richard Lloyd (MW September 5, 2002).

Broomfield has spearheaded the marketing for a range of leading household cleaning brands, such as Glade, Mr Muscle, Toilet Duck, Brillo and Pledge. She helped launch a number of products – including Glade Circul-Air – and brought the Pledge floor cleaning range under the Mr Muscle banner (MW June 19).

Broomfield has kept faith with long-standing agencies Bank Hoggins O’Shea/FCB and Zenith Optimedia during her tenure.

Broomfield will leave the company next month in order to take some time out of work. She is understood to have left the company to pursue other options. A spokeswoman for SC Johnson refuses to say whether the company is close to finding a replacement for Broomfield.

Broomfield’s exit comes swiftly after the departure of the marketing chief of SC Johnson’s closest rival, Reckitt Benckiser (RB). Former RB marketing director Keith Edwards has become general manager for Poland, succeeded by ex-Procter & Gamble haircare marketer Thomas Bittinger in September (MW July 24).
