The popular DJs stay on the long wave

Caroline Parry’s broadly excellent article (MW August 7) about radio breakfast shows doesn’t emphasise the simple benefit of length of tenure.

Both Jono and Bam Bam are doing better because they are now racking up years of service, the very reason that Chris Tarrant has done so well to date. Tarrant’s absence (I saw him in Nice last week!) from the show undermines the habit that breakfast radio listeners need. Despite Foxy’s excellent performance in deputising for Tarrant in the clever format Keith Pringle has designed, the audience needs to hear the same voice day in, day out.

Of course, this theory doesn’t explain the Sara Cox issue, but what does?
