Top tissue marketer quits Georgia-Pacific

Tissues giant Georgia-Pacific has been rocked by its second senior marketing departure in less than a year, following the resignation of top tissues marketer Andy Davis.

Davis, who was marketing controller at the company, was responsible for marketing Georgia-Pacific’s tissue and kitchen roll brands, which include Thirst Pockets and Le Box.

His resignation follows the departure of marketing director Steve Duncan, whose duties Davis assumed after the marketing director position was axed in October last year (MW October 31, 2002).

Davis helped to relaunch Thirst Pockets as a credible competitor to Procter & Gamble’s Bounty, and linked up with Disney to launch cartoon-themed tissues.

Prior to his two-year tenure at the company, Davis was marketing manager at Jacobs Bakery. Davis has left Georgia-Pacific to join Valueworks, a company run by ex-Jacobs colleagues that specialises in cost-cutting in supply chains.

Davis says: “I shall be teaming up with former colleagues at an exciting time for Valueworks. My marketing skills will still be used, particularly in category management.”

Davis’ responsibilities will be handed to Simon Hawkes, who oversees the company’s Nouvelle toilet roll brand. Hawkes will now control marketing across the tissue brands, reporting to executive director of consumer business Gareth Edwards.
