All hornless fun

Advertisers haven’t always toad the line when it comes to their creative executions, but Surf has spawned a whole newt genre of advertising: the self-censored ad.

The detergent’s latest poster campaign carries the strapline “Surf – cuts through stains and bull****”. It has obviously inserted the asterisks to pre-empt any action from the Advertising Standards Authority (it would no doubt have banned it – after all, bullfrogs are a protected species in some countries, so applying detergent to them is probably illegal).

Still, as it’s perfectly obvious what four letters lie below those asterisks, blotting them out is a tad(pole) pointless, don’t you think?
