Scot Power seeks extra partners

Scottish Power is seeking retail and charity partnerships to help it sell gas and electricity.

The company says it has already identified specific opportunities to develop partnerships with electrical and DIY retailers and charities, but no details have been revealed.

The utility company already has affinity deals with Sainsbury’s (MW October 25, 2001) and recently launched a partnership with Lloyds TSB bank to sell gas and electricity (MW July 31). Lloyds TSB claims to be the first UK bank to offer gas and electricity through its network of high street branches.

Scottish Power also has a partnership with the TUC to sell gas and electricity to trade unions, under TUC’s own Union Energy brand.

A spokesman for the company says that such deals make commercial sense for affinity partners, which receive a substantial annual revenue stream and benefit from increased customer loyalty.

The company claims that, under the affinity scheme with Sainsbury’s, customers who pay their bills monthly by direct debit make an average saving on their annual combined energy bill of &£38 to &£73, depending on how much energy they use and which suppliers they buy from.
