Asda ‘jingle’ set to storm pop charts

Pop princess Louise’s new charity fund-raising single Don’t Give Up, the chorus of which bears an uncanny resemblance to Asda’s signature tune, has been written with the help of the writer of the supermarket’s jingle.

The singer will donate all the royalties from the double A-side single Pandora’s Kiss/Don’t Give Up, released on Monday, to Breast Cancer Care.

An Asda spokesman admits that the writer of the jingle – Roger Greenaway – has been involved in the writing of the song. The spokesman adds: “We haven’t entered into this to do subliminal advertising it’s about raising money for Cancer Care.”

Radio 2 listeners have been ringing up the station to point out that the single Don’t Give Up sounds like the Asda jingle, and the supermarket has also received calls to its helpline asking whether its jingle has been incorporated into the track, which is on sale at rival retailers.

Don’t Give Up was written for Asda’s Tickled Pink campaign group, an annual initiative by the store to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.
