Scottish Courage poaches P&G man

Tim Seager appointed as Scottish Courage’s UK marketing director in surprise hiring from P&G

Scottish Courage has appointed Procter & Gamble marketing director for France Tim Seager as its top marketer. His appointment as the brewer’s UK marketing director has come as a surprise because it is unusual for P&G to lose one of its top marketers to another company.

He is expected to join Scottish Courage at the beginning of next year and will also have overall responsibility for the newly acquired HP Bulmer cider stable and its flagship account, Strongbow.

Seager’s appointment follows the recent promotion of the group marketing director Tony McGrath to take on the role of managing director of on-trade business.

The newly promoted consumer marketing director, Andy Neal, will report to Seager. Neal, previously the brand’s director, was promoted to the role last month and assumes responsibility for all brand marketing activities (MW August 28).

Last month the brewer also promoted John Botia, the marketer responsible for recent strong sales growth on the Foster’s and John Smith’s brands, to be managing director of its Northern sales operation – Newcastle Breweries.

The brewer uses M&C Saatchi for its advertising for Foster’s, Beck’s and Kronenbourg lagers, and uses TBWA/London for John Smith’s and McEwan’s. Leo Burnett was recently appointed to the Bulmers advertising business.
