Job search often starts on the Net

Concerns by national newspapers over the extent to which public sector recruitment is moving online are well founded (Will print be ousted by e-recruitment?, MW September 11).

MORI research has revealed that the public sector is now the most popular choice of employer for graduates, ahead of blue chip businesses and small to medium-sized businesses. Thirty-two per cent of final year students said that they would like to work for a public sector organisation.

The same MORI study also revealed that over three-quarters of all finalists have used the internet to look at careers, job vacancies, or postgraduate course information; and 40 per cent of finalists consider the internet to be the most useful

general source for careers and job vacancy information.
