The Diary doesn’t understand the Government, but is ever willing to make an effort, and Tony Blair’s Big Conversation seemed the ideal opportunity. So the Diary duly telephoned Number 10 to chat with the PM. And was greeted by a recording, which said the switchboard had been overwhelmed by calls owing to a hoax message which had been telling people to call Downing Street. All very well, but surely a Government that initiates a conversation with 60 million people should have been prepared for some of them to phone up for a chinwag.
