Holmes Place appoints sales director

Holmes Place health club chain has appointed a sales and marketing director and is launching a &£2m membership recruitment campaign.

Nick Burrows takes the sales and marketing position made vacant by the resignation of Jeremy Tester in October (MW October 16, 2003).

Previously, Burrows was sales and marketing director at Macdonald Hotels and divisional sales, marketing and customer services director at Rank Group Holidays Division. In the latter role he oversaw brands such as Oasis and Butlins.

Prior to joining Holmes Place he was working in the local authority sector on the introduction of customer service and business procedures.

The fitness chain’s new year marketing campaign has been devised by branding consultancy Dave. Total Media is handling the media planning and buying. Both appointments were made by Tester before his departure. The outdoor, press, SMS text and magazine campaign includes a membership offer.

Previously advertising and media was handled by M&C Saatchi and Allied Media respectively.

Holmes Place was taken private in a &£210m management buy-out, backed by equity groups Bridgepoint and Permira, in July last year. Founder and former chief executive Allan Fisher was replaced by Thistle Hotels chief executive Ian Burke.
