The Scottish Executive is the devolved governing body for Scotland and implements campaigns for issues such as the environment, healthy eating and drink-driving.

The executive’s roster has traditionally been three-strong. Incumbents include Barkers Advertising and The Union. The third agency was Faulds Advertising, but the company went into liquidation last October (MW October 2, 2003). The executive’s media account, held by Feather Brooksbank, will also be reviewed.

The review will be led by head of new media and marketing Roger Williams.

Like its Westminster counterpart, the Scottish Labour Party – which holds power in the Scottish Parliament – has been accused of spending too much money on advertising campaigns and its budget was cut by 25 per cent from &£13m for 2003/4. When the Scottish Executive came to power in 1999 the advertising budget was &£2.8m.

The Scottish Executive has recently announced plans to rebrand Scotland with a coherent image. At present tourist body VisitScotland, Scotland the Brand and Scottish Enterprise together with other institutions project different identities for the country.
