DDB London has scooped a &£1m project to promote this summer’s London elections, which include the Mayoral, London Assembly and European Parliament elections. It pitched against Soul, WCRS and Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy.

London Elects, an independent body set up to raise awareness of the June 10 elections, has earmarked &£1m for the campaign, which will include press, radio and outdoors. London Elects hopes to have its budget increased, which would allow for a television campaign to be included in the project. Media is handled by Zenith Optimedia.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of what the elections mean, how and when to vote and it will also direct Londoners to sources of information. This is the first time the three elections have been held on the same day and each voter will cast five votes to elect the three institutions.

The London Elects project is separate to the UK-wide activity planned by the Electoral Commission, which also aims to raise awareness of local elections and encourage the UK public to use their votes.

London Elects is independent to the Greater London Authority and reports to the Greater London Returning Officer, Anthony Mayer.
