Organic chocolate brand Green & Black’s is tying up with Pret A Manger to launch a range of co-branded chocolate bars to be sold in the sandwich chain from April.

The 40g bars will be available in milk, white and dark chocolate and will have both brands’ logos on the packaging. It is understood that Pret, which is 33 per cent owned by fast-food chain McDonald’s, has been looking for a potential partner brand for some time and has chosen Green & Black’s because of its focus on high- quality ingredients.

Green & Black’s is keen to expand away from its roots as an organic company and has been working over the past two years to establish itself as a premium chocolate brand. Marketing director Mark Palmer says that the deal with Pret will help it to move into the impulse sector and expand its distribution.

The brand has launched a number of new products such as ice cream, Easter eggs and chocolate biscuits in a bid to extend its awareness.

It is also increasing the marketing of its Maya Gold chocolate brand, which was the first Fairtrade product in the UK, to celebrate its tenth birthday.
