Don’t crush our flushable brush
After reading “Eco-watchdogs savage Johnson” (MW February 19), I was surprised to find that SC Johnson had not been contacted to provide the facts on our new flushable toilet brush.
The product was developed after research with consumers who, by and large, cited germs as one of the most important issues when it comes to cleaning the toilet. Consumers believe that toilet brushes stored in the bathroom harbour germs. In addition, we learned that consumers do not like handling a dirty, germ-ridden, messy toilet brush. Our new flushable toilet brush offers consumers an easy and clean solution to the problem.
SC Johnson used external research experts to prove that our product is both flushable and biodegradable – two distinct features. We are also proud of the materials that go into this product, which meets the highest quality standards.
The cleaning pad, made from a mixture of natural and synthetic (naturally derived) fibres, has been tested and shown to be flushable. After flushing, the product breaks up – in a similar manner to other such paper products – and does not persist in the environment. Equally, the active cleaning ingredients with which the pad is impregnated are all ultimately biodegradable.
SC Johnson stands behind its research and experience with flushable items, including its flushable wipes. In almost two years since our flushable wipes entered the US market, we have had no pattern of problems with septic systems or plumbing.
We give the highest priority to the environment and the health and safety of our customers. We are proud of the recognition we have received as an environmentally responsible company, but more importantly we are proud of our products and the rigorous testing we subject them to.
