Children’s charity Hope & Homes for Children is looking for its first head of marketing and communications, as part of an initiative to increase its size.

The charity already has high-profile support, with patrons including Lord Ashdown, Lord Carrington, Martin Bell, Romanian Princess Marina Sturdza and artist Sam Taylor-Wood.

The head of marketing will oversee an expansion of Hope & Homes for Children’s marketing activity, and the charity says it might appoint an advertising agency. An earlier poster campaign for the charity featured a little girl in front of a pile of rubble, saying that she would like to become an architect.

Hope & Homes for Children was established in 1994 by Mark Cook, following his experiences as a UN commander in the former Yugoslavia. After fundraising for orphanages in Croatia and Bosnia, the charity extended its remit to children in Africa who have been orphaned by AIDS, poverty and armed conflict.

Hope & Homes for Children has a presence in nine countries in Eastern Europe and five in Africa, directly helping 8,000 children through the establishment of “loving family homes”. Rather than providing emergency food supplies, the charity concentrates on giving children a supportive structure in which to grow up.
