L’Oréal, the beauty products giant, has moved its general manager and veteran marketer Michael Tanguy to head its Helena Rubenstein division in Paris.
The company has appointed Guy Farmer to replace Tanguy as head of its high-profile Garnier and Maybelline divisions. Farmer will be in charge of an ad spend of more than &£35m a year.
Tanguy was voted the best marketer by his peers in the UK toiletries, cosmetics and fashion markets in the Marketing Week top marketer’s survey earlier this year (MW January 29).
He joined L’Oréal after business school selling the company’s products door to door. In 2002, he was made general manager for Garnier UK from the post of US marketing director for L’Oréal Paris.
Tanguy has led the marketing and strategic development of key L’Oréal brands, including suncare range Ambre Solaire, Fructis haircare products and cosmetics range Maybelline.
Farmer was previously general manager of L’Oréal’s consumer products division in the Netherlands. He was also marketing director of Garnier and Maybelline in the UK.
He will report to Sophie Gasperment, who was appointed managing director of L’Oréal consumer and professional products last November.
Gasperment was previously general manager at L’Oréal Paris, and was replaced by international marketing chief Grita Loebsack this year (MW March 11).
