Barclays marketing chief quits

Barclays PLC announced today that Simon Gulliford has decided to resume his career as a consultant at the end of the year, stepping down from his role as Barclays Marketing & Communications Director. Mr Gulliford will remain a consultant to Barclays following his departure.

John Varley, Deputy Group Chief Executive said: “I am immensely grateful for Simon’s many contributions to Barclays in the last three years. He has brought intellectual and practical leadership to Barclays marketing, as well as an energy, passion, and commitment to excellence, which have served us well. Having delivered a step change in marketing capability, I am delighted that he will stay in post until the year end, enabling him to preside over the important marketing work we have ahead of us in the second half.”

Since joining Barclays, Mr Gulliford has led a complete transformation of Barclays marketing capability and talent. He has also overseen the Fluent in Finance brand positioning, made famous through the Group’s successful Samuel L Jackson TV commercials, and recently unveiled the Group’s refreshed brand identity, designed to ensure a consistent face for Barclays in all countries and markets.
