More to life than journalism

Iain Murray should not flatter himself thinking that every media studies student wants to be a journalist (MW April 29).

I graduated with a First from what he would term a “joke” university and have been gainfully employed as a book editor and Web content developer; I also run my own youth marketing consultancy.

Fellow graduates went into advertising, radio production and film work.

If you agree with the premise that most of what we know about the world today we learn through media, then it surely follows that studying the media is vitally important.

Media studies has improved my perspective on life in a way that law or maths could never have done. It has also kept me in work.
