AA raids Vodafone for Salmon replacement

The AA has appointed Vodafone’s Emma Kenny as its new marketing director after a six-month hunt for a replacement for Clare Salmon.

Salmon, who was sales and marketing director, was promoted to managing director of the AA Financial Services business incorporating insurance and loans in December (MW December 11). Former Intel and Philips marketer Michael Couzens has filled Salmon’s role temporarily.

Kenny moves from her role as corporate marketing director at Vodafone, and before that global CRM director. She began her career at consultants McKinsey, before taking marketing positions at Kingfisher and B&Q. She will report to AA managing director Roger Wood.

Kenny will be responsible for agency relationships, e-commerce, brand and channel strategy and affinity relationships. Product marketing has been devolved to the AA’s individual road, financial services and motoring services divisions. In January, the AA awarded roster agency Rapier its &£20m road services business, bringing Rapier’s billings up to &£70m. The agency was responsible for the AA’s current “Kev and Bev” television advertising promoting its loans. It works alongside fellow roster agency M&C Saatchi and media agency Manning Gottlieb OMD.
