The news that Procter & Gamble is launching a lifestyle magazine targeted at mothers called Mustard came as a shock to stand-up comic Alex Musson, as he has been editing his own magazine, also called Mustard, for the past three years. An enraged Musson told the Diary: “Perhaps P&G doesn’t think there will be much of an overlap in readership, but what if someone wanting the latest information about nappies saw my ads for Catholic Reward Cards, Celebrity Brains or Dirty Harry Krishna? The confusion could result in children across the country being left to simmer in soiled undergarments, and I for one wouldn’t want that on my conscience.”
