Sponsors sought for Superset tournament

Marketing and events company Superset is seeking sponsors for the London launch of its one-set tennis tournament, Superset tennis. The company is seeking a headline sponsor and a number of media partners for the event this October.

It is understood that Superset is keen to sign up a corporate or packaged goods brand as the tournament’s key sponsor. The event, which is supported by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), will see eight international tennis players, including Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski and John McEnroe, battle it out in a one-set, sudden-death competition. The winner will receive &£250,000.

The event, which will be held at Wembley Arena, will use new technology to give spectators a better view of action on the court, including a “player’s-eye view” that will be shown on plasma screens. There will also be a number of music acts and DJs performing.

The sponsorship is being handled by Superset, a UK-based company set up in 1999 to develop Superset tennis. It is understood that the firm plans to roll out the concept globally next year.

The company has appointed marketing agency Slice to launch the event in the UK. It is planning activity around this month’s Wimbledon tournament and the launch will be supported by a press and outdoor campaign.
