TalkSport picks EMAP man to head promotion

TalkSport, the national commercial station owned by The Wireless Group, has appointed EMAP head of broadcast innovations Adam Bullock as sponsorship and promotion director.

He takes over from Adam Roland, who left TalkSport last month to take over Bullock’s role at EMAP (MW May 20). It is not thought that the job swap was intentional. Bullock starts his new role in early July.

Bullock, who was also head of commercial programming at EMAP, will be now be responsible for developing TalkSport’s sponsorship and promotion programme and driving non-spot revenue for the station.

The move has reunited Roland with his former boss at TalkSport Tim Bleakley, who is EMAP director of broadcast advertising.

Roland is also responsible for sponsorship, promotions and supplier-funded programming across the entire EMAP portfolio. He will also develop campaigns that bring the radio and television brands closer together.

Last week, The Wireless Group announced that it was planning to sue the BBC over the latter’s claims that it had the exclusive radio rights to Euro 2004.

TalkSport was granted official broadcast rights by European football body, UEFA. The BBC agreed to pull the ad containing the claims, but TalkSport is still pursuing damages. The Wireless Group is also suing Rajar for lost earnings.
