Amex promotes Campet to fill top position

American Express has promoted Thierry Campet to head of brand and communications, its top UK marketing position.

Campet has been brought over from Amex’s international marketing department, where he was director of international interactive marketing and head of EMEA global customer experience. In his new role, Campet will oversee Amex’s £12.3m advertising budget in the UK. Ogilvy & Mather handles Amex’s advertising globally.

Campet replaces Katherine Whitton, who was promoted in March to vice-president, product management for Amex in the UK.

During her tenure, Whitton was responsible for the brand’s involvement in fashion and music sponsorships, including Amex’s backing of fashion designers Boudicca and the MTV Europe Music Awards. She also oversaw the relaunch of the Amex Blue credit card in 2000.

Amex is sponsoring the Wimbledon Tennis Championships for the first time this year and is showing coverage of tennis matches on giant screens in London and on a floating tennis court on the Thames.

Amex recently completed a global review of its media, reappointing MindShare to the $375m (£206m) account. Carat, which is responsible for Amex’s media buying and planning in the UK, was unaffected by the review.
