I applaud Harpal Rai’s stocking policy and achievements, but he is wrong when he says we are “not interested in supporting good off-licences in the independent sector” (MW June 10). Indeed Budvar as a brand feels most at home in the independent sector because it is itself independent.
He does, however, identify a problem of communications – the route to market of a brand can be a complex one and, especially for the smaller independent brands like ourselves, we find it impossible to identify who in the independent sector is even selling our brands.
Mr Rai issues me with a challenge – to work with him in order to help him exceed customer expectations – and I accept his challenge. Expect a phone call very soon Mr Rai!
