Zitter given wider role at Associated

Daily Mail managing director Guy Zitter has been given the additional title of commercial director for Associated Newspapers.

He retains his Daily Mail responsibilities but will also look at addressing challenges developing on a group level for The Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard, free newspaper Metro and advertising title Loot.

It is believed that Daily Mail & General Trust, parent company of Associated, handed the title to Zitter to retain his loyalty. Insiders suggest that rival media operators, possibly including new owners of The Daily Telegraph the Barclay brothers, may have sounded him out about a move.

Zitter says that “there are issues which could be looked at on a group basis”, but stressed that ad sales would remain “divisional”.

Zitter adds that the position does not affect the reporting lines of Mail on Sunday managing director Stephen Miron and Evening Standard managing director Mike Anderson.
