Naked is hanging out all over, it seems. The recent news that the agency is in talks with Fallon over a joint venture brings the total number of Naked ventures, planned and extant – in the Diary’s estimation – to nine. There’ll soon be one on every corner. Rather like a certain coffee chain. So to help confused media types, here is how to tell whether you’re dealing with Naked or Starbucks: vNaked put sofas in major venues in five UK cities: Starbucks puts sofas in cafés in all cities. Everywhere. vNaked has or plans offices in five countries: Starbucks has the turnover of five countries. vNaked calls its offshoots things like ‘Naked Flame’ and ‘Naked Ambition’: Starbucks calls its offshoots ‘Starbucks’. vStarbucks has an outlet in Gatwick Airport: Naked has one in Clemmow Hornby Inge. vNaked set up an agency to compete with itself: actually, Starbucks’ branches are close enough together to compete with each other too, nowadays. Scrub that one. vAnd clients should be doubly careful with one particular Naked enterprise – if you’re looking for Naked’s Amsterdam office but end up sampling the local ‘coffee’ shops’ wares, your media plan might end up wackier than you bargained for…
