Northern Foods revamps marketing team

Northern Foods has a completed a review of its marketing team following the recent reorganisation of its business units into three divisions; ambient, frozen and chilled.

The company, which makes branded and own-label food products, is retaining its three key marketing directors, Paul Reenan, Simon Smith and Gary Johnston, with the roles of Reenan and Smith being extended.

Reenan, who was previously marketing director for frozen pizza brand Goodfellas, will now handle marketing for the entire frozen division, which also includes the Dalepak and Hollands brands. Reenan joined Green Isle Foods, which is owned by Northern Foods, seven years ago and was previously a brand manager at the company. He has also worked for Kraft Foods.

Smith, previously marketing director for biscuits, is now marketing director for ambient foods, although he will still be responsible for both branded and own-label products. Gary Johnston, marketing director for Pork Farms and Bowyers, has retained his role and title. It is understood that the marketing directors are looking to develop their teams and strategies.

The restructure at Northern Foods follows a year of tough trading for the company. Chief executive Pat Driscoll has been streamlining the business and has axed a number of senior positions as well as announced plans to close two factories.
