Nicola Thomson, head of marketing at Jazz FM, has left her job at the Guardian Media Group-owned station after over three years in the post. Thomson, who has been away on maternity leave, has left to pursue other interests in media.
GMG Radio is now reviewing the marketing team across its three brands, which include Smooth FM and Real Radio, before deciding whether to recruit a replacement for Thomson or restructure the team.
GMG chief executive John Myers was expected to restructure the marketing department following the March launch of Smooth FM, the repositioned Jazz FM North West. Myers oversaw Smooth FM’s launch campaign, created by Clear Marketing. Smooth FM now has a broader playlist to attract a wider audience (MW December 11, 2003).
Thomson was appointed as the station’s first head of marketing in 2001 (MW May 24, 2001) and was responsible for its rebranding, which included ditching its chameleon brand icon (MW January 23, 2003). She also appointed Kitcatt Nohr Shaw to handle the brand’s &£2m creative business and Manning Gottlieb OMD to handle media planning and buying.
