James Villa Holidays is looking for an advertising agency to handle its &£2m business following the appointment of a chief marketer.

The independent holiday company appointed former Eurostar head of marketing Joanna Howard to the new position of sales and marketing director in May (MW May 22).

Howard oversaw an outdoor, press and radio campaign created by Smarter Communications when she arrived at the company. The advertising was designed to promote affordable pricing and the fact that villa holidays are not just for families. The strapline was “You’ll never forget your first time”.

James Villa Holidays launched in 1984 and specialises in private villa holidays in the Mediterranean and the US. It is now preparing for the summer 2005 sales season and is offering Turkey as a destination for the first time.

The company took the opportunity to sign a sponsorship deal with ITV1’s Today With Des And Mel in January, when negotiations with former sponsor Ken Hom’s Oriental Food Range collapsed. The &£450,000 deal was brokered by ARM Direct with Carlton. Howard joined Eurostar as marketing manager in 2003 and previously held the position at GlaxoSmithKline and Quaker Oats.
