Silversea Cruises signs up Isabella Rossellini

Luxury cruise line Silversea Cruises has appointed the actress and former Lancôme model Isabella Rossellini to be its first brand ambassador.

Rossellini will appear in Silversea’s print advertising and brochures. Plans include a photographic journal of Rossellini’s travels with Silversea. Rossellini’s daughter, model Elettra Wiedemann, may also feature.

Lancôme ended its relationship with Rossellini in 1994, allegedly because she was regarded as too old to represent the brand.

Silversea’s advertising is created by Ogilvy & Mather Italy; agency relationships are handled by director of international marketing Mike Bonner. The company spent £213,000 on advertising in the UK in the year to June (Nielsen Media Research).

Silversea senior vice-president of worldwide marketing and communications Barbara Muckermann says: “Isabella is the ideal personification of Silversea’s exclusive standard of elegance, glamour and sophistication.”

Silversea launched in 1994 and operates four small cruise liners at the premium end of the cruise market. The company’s head office is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Silversea is also forging new partnerships with a number of luxury goods firms, including fragrance house Acqua di Parma, Italian clothing maker Loro Piana and premium kitchen appliance manufacturer Viking Range.
