Clemmow Hornby Inge (CHI) has been appointed to handle the &£3m relaunch of National Magazine Company’s flagship women’s title Cosmopolitan.

CHI adds Cosmopolitan to the advertising business the agency picked up with the &£10m launch of NatMags’ weekly title Reveal in June (MW June 10). Cosmopolitan has not advertised for three years (Nielsen Media Research).

NatMags is believed to be investing about &£3m in refreshing the magazine, which has seen circulation fall owing to increased competition from Condé Nast’s Glamour. Cosmopolitan’s reported circulation for the first half of 2004 was 456,447, down 1.2 per cent year on year and 0.9 per cent period on period (Audit Bureau of Circulations).

NatMags’ Cosmopolitan group is also beefing up the magazine’s commercial team. It has appointed Chris Vannozzi as group promotions director. He moves from the luxury group, where he was promotions director for Esquire. Previous incumbent Kerry Haynes has left to start her own business.

The magazine is preparing its biggest-ever UK edition for December, with 420 pages and will be available on November 15 in both full and “travel” sizes. A spokeswoman says the advertising-to-editorial ratio will be 51 to 49 per cent.
